About Kevin & Charis

Charis and Kevin Dickson started their Tango journey with no dance experience except for a little at clubs, parties or with family and friends. As they enjoyed dancing socially Charis suggested learning a dance they could do together.

Kevin, an avid fisherman, reluctantly agreed to start lessons on condition that it was a traditional style of dance, it was available locally, and in return, Charis would come fishing. The local newspaper had an advert for traditional Argentine Tango classes, due to start the following day. This was the perfect opportunity and she booked herself and Kevin for the introductory session. Seven years later, they still find their love of Tango just as addictive.

Charis and Kevin know the importance of learning good technique as the essential foundation on which to build dancing skills. Once established, it provides the opportunity for expression, style and enjoyment. Through their own experiences of this beautiful dance, they have discovered a love for the music and an admiration for the Tango composers.

They also believe that even if learning Tango can be challenging, it should always be fun. They understand that people have many reasons for dancing Tango, whether it’s a love of the dance, its music, for fitness, to make new friends or just enjoying something new and different. Kevin & Charis are committed to continue supporting and developing Tango South as a strong and friendly community. They are delighted now to have an opportunity to teach the skills learnt over the last seven years from their tutors, Jennifer and Peter, and to help new dancers of any age or experience to explore the exciting world of Argentine Tango in all its variety and richness.

Charis and Kevin also discovered Jive whilst learning Tango. Three years ago they set up their own weekly swing jive classes under the banner of Swing South, which now runs concurrently with Tango South.

Outside Tango, Charis has worked for an Antiques Newspaper and currently works in a Doctor’s Surgery in a Reception/administrative role.

Kevin is a qualified Mechanical Engineer with a background in the Automotive and Aerospace industries.

Charis has yet to embark on her fishing career.
