Sources of Tango Information
There are several sources of information on Tango, its history, culture, personalities, music etc. However, for a variety of reasons, it can be difficult to separate fact from fiction, especially as you go back in time.
Firstly, there has been a great deal of political upheaval in Argentina over the years, which has interrupted the continuous line of historical recording.
Secondly the nature of Tango itself has sometimes attracted salacious rather than academic accounts. For example, we will probably never know the real significance of the bordellos in the development of Tango.
More recently the Internet, a tremendous source of Tango material, can give rise to myths which acquire undeserved credibility simply through constant repetition – it is so easy to cut and paste without cross checking!
Even so, there is a lot of fascinating material out there.
